As a member of Santander’s retail banking division you’ll help serve Santander’s retail and small business customers as part of one of the top banks in the United States based on deposits. With principal presence in the northeast U.S., Santander’s retail division offers consumer and lending products to help our customers reach their financial goals. Santander currently serves nearly 2 million retail customers and 5.2% of the 2.7 million small businesses in the US footprint have a transactional account with Santander Bank.

The Control Manager (CM) is responsible for developing a comprehensive model for measuring operational controls: accounting, efficiency, quality and/or fraud. The CM will work with Operations (Geoban) to develop each underlying control, and the related reporting process and policies to establish its adequacy and effectiveness. Controls will be measure quantitatively and reported to Executive Management through a formalized governance process to established and managed by the CM. The CM will develop an action plan to resolve any exceptions to policy. Scope of responsibility encompasses processing services for 3.0+MM customer accounts, 10 system applications, 1+MM transactions daily, and $1+B in daily movements

Responsibilities

  • Administration: Organize and administer management and governance processes; prepare agendas, minutes

  • Action plans: Define format of action plan, manage cross functionally to ensure the viability of the action plan and progress toward established target dates and deliverables

  • Executive presentations: Prepare and present information verbally, with supporting PowerPoint, data, graphs, etc. to communicate the status, issues and/or proposal

  • Governance: Establish meeting schedules, participants and process to ensure complete and accurate review control performance and actions to be taken to improve controls

  • Self-development: Initiate or follow up on learning the processes, systems, procedures, etc. necessary to analyze and report on Operations and Cost Management activities

  • Develop controls: Evaluate operational process, identify control points, establish clear lines of responsibility for operational control and reporting, establish range of unacceptable activity

  • Develop reporting requirements: develop report format and content at operational level, management and executive summaries, and schedule and distribution

  • Work with MIS resources to ensure accuracy and timeliness of reporting

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in a financial services operations environment with exceptional accounting and analytical experience

  • At least 10 years of professional experience

  • Able to verbally present analyses with supporting spreadsheet, graphs, Power points, flowcharts, etc.

  • Confident, proactive senior-level individual who has the ability to work across organizational lines, and equally well at both the operational and executive level, to move initiatives and resolve complex problems

  • Database skill (Access) preferred.; accounting and core banking financial systems skills preferred

  • Demonstrable expertise using Excel and PowerPoint for analysis and presentations required

  • Excellent data analysis, recommendation and resolution skills

  • Project and time management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional environment.
